Our Pastor

Pastor Rodney and his  wife Rebekah Spears

About Pastor Rodney Spears

Rodney was saved as a teenager at Newtonsville Baptist Church in Newtonsville, Ohio. It wasn’t long until he felt a desire to do more for God. After graduating high school, he went to Tennessee Temple University where he graduated in 1977 with a B.A. degree. In his heart, he felt God dealing with him about surrendering to preach, but it was a few years later when he stopped making excuses and surrendered to the gospel ministry. Rodney felt God leading them to the mission field of Peru where he took his family in 1991.

Before coming to Roanoke, Virginia, Rodney spent a total of 15 years in church planting ministry. God used him to start New Testament Baptist Church in Cajamarca, Peru, and also New Testament Baptist Church in Lima, Peru. Rodney was also instrumental in helping to organize other works in Peru. Not only did Rodney do church planting, he was often called upon to teach and preach in other areas of Peru.

In 2013, Rodney began to feel God calling him to Brentwood Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. Rodney never imagined God would ever lead him to another place of service. After months of prayer and seeking God’s will, Rodney and Rebekah announced to the Brethren in Peru where God was leading them to go and on October 6, 2014, he became Pastor of the Brentwood Baptist Church.

Rodney has a B.A. in Education and Bible from Tennessee Temple University, a Spanish Degree from Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio, and a Master’s Degree in Biblical Counseling from Patriot Bible University in Del Norte, Colorado. His desire is to use all ofthese things for God in the ministry, to see Brentwood Baptist built up and lives changed by the grace and mercy of God.

About Rebekah Spears

Rebekah is the mother of four children and six grandchildren.  Rebekah has been a very faithful helpmeet to her husband, never waivering as they left the states to go to Peru and many years later when they returned to minister in the United States.  She works in the music, teaches Sunday School,  heads up the ladies’ group, and does counseling with women.

Rebekah was born in the Philippines to Marciano and Iluminada Flores.  Her parents were a God-honoring, God fearing couple that was involved in the Lord’s work in the Philippines.   Rebekah is the oldest of 4 children.

Rebekah grew up around American missionaries and Filipino Pastors.  She can never remember a time that she did not attend church.  Rebekah received Christ as a child.  She had an insatiable desire to learn to play the piano. She actually walked quite a distance, just to get to a piano and to be able to practice.  At age 9, she was given the opportunity to  play the organ at a country mission church.

She married her husband, Rodney Spears on Feb. 25, 1980.  Shortly after their wedding, they came to the states where she made her home until the Lord called her husband to Peru in 1991.

To serve the Lord is a privilege that she doesn't take lightly. The desire of her life is to be used of God and to see her children and grandchildren saved and serving the Lord in whatever capacity He may see fit.
